Some things you should keep in mind…
- Make sure you and your family are safe and out of harm’s way.
- Photograph the original damage and provide your adjuster with copies.
- Protect your property from further damage by making reasonable, temporary repairs, i.e., if your roof is leaking or if windows are broken, cover the openings with plywood or heavy-duty plastic. Move any undamaged items to a secure area.
- In the event of water damage inside your home, use wet-vac carpets and furniture to help prevent the formation of mold and mildew. For a local water extraction service company, look in the yellow pages. Or click here for our preferred vendors.
- If your power is out, unplug appliances and other electrical devices to help prevent surge damage when the power is restored.
- If your home is uninhabitable due to the damages, seek shelter elsewhere. Be sure to keep receipts for all your out-of-pocket expenses while unable to remain in your home. Keep your policy number handy.
- Keep all your temporary repair receipts and any damaged property until your Claim Representative has a chance to inspect them.
- If necessary, contact the police or fire department to report your loss.
